is that by which Christ himself, under the appearances of bread and wine, according to the most truthful reasoning of an external sacrifice, is bloodlessly sacrificed by priests.
LVIII.
This sacrifice is moreover instituted by Christ himself and is most acceptable to God, and likewise truly propitiatory for the sins of the living and the dead. Nor does the Apostle’s disputation in the Epistle to the Hebrews conflict in any way with this assertion.
Appendix.
It can be proved far more easily and clearly from Scripture that the sacrifice of the Eucharist was instituted by Christ than the sacrament of the Eucharist. The sectarians are therefore most inept interpreters of Scripture.
LIX.
The sacrament itself is rightly adored with the worship of latria the supreme worship due to God alone, both internally and externally; although such worship pertains to the appearances themselves not primarily and of themselves (as it does to Christ), but secondarily, insofar as they contain Christ himself by a wonderful union.
Appendix.
From the very things that the sectarians concede, the solemnity of the feast of Corpus Christi can be defended against their slanders.
LX.
Finally, the entire rationale of the ceremonies, whether of the words or of the actions accustomed to be used in the Mass, is most correct.

The adversaries have nothing to oppose to this institution of the Church except for mere trifles.
