What else would you say Peace and Charity are, but a flame ignited by the Holy Spirit in a heart purified through faith, by which it burns with the love of God and boils with piety? Let us testify to this holy and ardent love of God through our zeal for truth and obedience to the faith, according to that word of the Lord: If anyone loves me, he will keep my word: and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and make our home with him. John 14:23.
Bernard was truly pious when he said: "The sting of love is Jesus, and Him crucified; and the sweetness of the love of God is perceived by experience, not by reason." Let us not only establish by opinion, with Augustine, that holy love is the true incense, but let us also testify to it in deed and with our whole heart; and let us be mindful of the saying of that same Father: "The love of God begets zeal; the love of neighbor begets gentleness."
If this is our greatest endeavor, then indeed, most noble WOLFELDT, that which you recently saw fit to inscribe for the sake of memory in a certain book of mine, from the Epistle of Ignatius the Martyr to the Magnesians, can be said of us: "It becomes us not only to be called, but also to be Christians." For it is not being called, but being, that makes one blessed. And we shall obtain that very thing, through the benefit of Christ the Savior, if we show that the character of Christ, illustrious in faith, hope, and charity, shines forth in us to the life: not unmindful also of another saying in the same Epistle: "For I say that there are two characters formed in men; the one of the true coin, the other of the counterfeit. The God-fearing man is a coin minted by God; the ungodly man is a falsely named coin, spurious, bastard, counterfeit, not fashioned by God, but energized by the Devil."
I pray to the Son of God that He may sanctify us all through the truth; and make us one in Himself; and that He may be present and bless most abundantly not only the most serene and powerful King, FREDERICK II of Denmark
