each nation, like a body, should employ its fame, goods, and blood, even to the very last breath of life, for the defense of the Evangelical Religion, for the sustenance of temples and schools, and for the preservation of Consistories administrative ecclesiastical councils and the commodities that adhere to them: THAT THEY MAY DEEM THIS ASSURANCE MOST STRONG AND BEST, and hold it firmly.
With these things thus standing, the three Evangelical Estates in the Kingdom of Bohemia, with the Princes, Orders, and Estates of Silesia who embrace the Augsburg Confession, individually and solemnly vow and promise: If the Estates in Silesia themselves, or their subjects, or their fellow believers, whether they hold their possessions under ecclesiastical or political authority, should be disturbed, constrained, or molested in their Christian Religion, in their Temples, in their Schools, in their Consistories, or in other matters pertaining to public sacred affairs, and if this happens in any manner, under any pretext, color, or splendor, whether in the name of rebellion or any other name—which the enemies of GOD and of the divine oracles can cleverly and deceitfully devise—then, upon the first demand of the Silesians, within the space of one month, they will most faithfully and quickly send one thousand cavalry and two thousand infantry, at the costs and expenses of the Evangelical Estates in Bohemia. Likewise, upon a second demand and instance, within the space of one month, they will send one thousand cavalry and two thousand infantry in the prior manner, at the costs and expenses of the Evangelical Estates in Bohemia. And finally, if extreme necessity should demand it, they will send their ultimate force, with which they desire to defend primarily their own King, or themselves, their wives, and their children, and all the roofs, temples, and walls of their Homeland, and in this way will bring aid.
Which aids the Princes, Orders, and Estates in Silesia have accepted with a singular grace and benevolence; and in turn, they have declared themselves under an equal obligation toward the most praiseworthy Estates of the Evangelical Religion in Bohemia; and they have sanctified and solemnly promised: If ANYONE from the most praiseworthy three Evangelical Estates in Bohemia, or from their subjects, or from their fellow believers, whether they hold their possessions under ecclesiastical or political authority, should be vexed, constrained, or disturbed in their Christian Religion, in their Temples and Schools, in their Consistories, and in other matters pertaining to the free Exercise of Religion; and if this happens, under any color whatsoever: then, upon the FIRST formal admonition of the Bohemian Estates, within the space of one month, they will send one thousand enlisted cavalry and two thousand infantry, at the costs and expenses of the Princes, Orders, and Estates in Silesia. Likewise, upon a SECOND demand, in the prior manner, with the same number of soldiers and cost; and finally, if extreme necessity should demand it, upon a THIRD instance, they will with their ultimate force—with which they desire to defend either their King, or their supreme leader in Silesia—or themselves, their wives, and their children, indeed the entire homeland—most faithfully and quickly come to their aid and in this way provide the promised help.
