To these ornaments of the soul is added the brilliance of letters. Indeed, you despise all other things by which the common crowd is most captivated with such laudable contempt, out of love for wisdom, that I would say you possess the nature of Solomon. Long study of letters is a game to you, through which you gently compel the Muses to serve you. Hence that happy vein of poetry, that intimate skill with the best authors, and that abundant store of erudition.
