Leeuwenhoek, Antoni van · 1719

An elaborate frontispiece depicts a portrait of Antonie van Leeuwenhoek surrounded by clouds, with an angel sounding a trumpet. The frame is inscribed: "ANTONIUS LEEUWENHOEK, BORN IN DELFT, 1632." Below, two female allegorical figures occupy a classical setting, with one gesturing toward the other. A putto sits to the left, a statue stands to the right, and the city of Delft is visible in the background. The imprint reads: "AT DELFT, with ADRIANUS BEMAN, 1719," alongside the signature of the artist, J. Goeree.
