Luke, divine [in nature], was an Antiochene by birth, a physician by trade, and skilled in much secular wisdom. He also learned Jewish instruction to the end. Having come to Jerusalem, he heard our Lord teaching. As some have said, he was one of the seventy apostles. Others say he met Christ in Jerusalem with Cleopas. After the Lord ascended and Paul believed, he became a companion and follower of the Apostle Paul.
