The chapter is draped like the habit of symbolic Masters. It is lit by 9 sepulchral lamps. The knight who presides is called the Grand Prior. The officers are the 1st and 2nd assistant. A Grand Commander is placed to the right of the Grand Prior, a Grand Master of Ceremonies to his left. The assistants are placed just like the Wardens in symbolic lodges. The secretary, placed at the bottom of the throne, has a desk in front of him. The Grand Chaplain is to the right of the Grand Prior Commander, the Grand Treasurer to the left of the Master of Ceremonies, and the knights are placed to the right and left. The chapter must have at least 7 members, up to 9. All the masters must be in a long mourning cloak, the hat turned down, holding in their hands a white handkerchief intended to wipe their tears, without any decoration. Their weapons consist of a cuirass, a sword, and a helmet which are suspended behind them on the wall of the chapter, as well as their decoration. Only the Grand Prior has a dagger suspended at the neck by a black ribbon, embroidered in white with a skull with bones in saltire in white, then these words NECOM. The weapons of the Grand Prior are suspended behind his armchair. The board which is on the floor of the chapter represents the temple of Jerusalem. Behind the armchair of the Grand Prior is suspended a blazing star with the letter G. On the middle of the board is placed a coffin covered in black velvet strewn with tears embroidered in silver and surrounded by flowers encircled by green palms. On the coffin is placed the Grand Cross of the order and the magisterial sword in saltire. On top of the tomb is the representation of the last Grand Master.
The members who are to compose the chapter being placed, the Grand Prior strikes a blow with his two hands against each other, which the two assistants repeat. The Grand Prior says: — Brave knights and illustrious companions, let us begin by praying to God for the rest of the soul of the Great Man whose ashes rest in this coffin, whom the greed and injustice of our enemies have taken from us, as well as for that of our other dead martyrs in Christian honor: — the Grand Prior.
