The St. Andrew's Cross also represents here the ordinary figure X, or two mutually inclined squares, the center of which represents to us those points, the 5 orders of architecture. – This cross is green and framed with gold, just as our fathers adopted the sign in Scotland.
21. What do the yellow square, the compass, the pincers, the plumb-hammer, and the two crossed swords on the board signify?
The same as what has already been explained in the Apprentice Mother Lodges.
22. What does the seven-branched candelabra signify?
It is presented here instead of the seven flames that are in the St. Andrew's Apprentice Mother Lodge in honor of God and has the same meaning as the seven lights that burn on the altar. They serve at the same time as a reminder that the Freemasons of old degrees must be luminous in their conduct; just as every faithful son of Russia provides something special for the welfare, for our brothers are all united for one joy and all belong to one tribe, like the arms of this candelabra.
23. What does the golden master key signify?
It reminds us of the master key that was found in Adoniram's coffin, and signifies, like that one, the master key to our secrets.
24. What does the skull signify, on whose nose and eye sockets three living flowers have grown?
What we experience daily: that the destruction of one object in nature promotes the growth and origin of another.
25. What do the butterfly and the pupa casing signify?
The specific meaning of each will be explained in the future; together they signify the superhuman varieties, wealth, and splendor of the creatures, both in regard to form, as well as movement and powers.
26. What does the drawing board signify?
Our masters draft the designs upon it that are to serve as patterns for the builders.
27. What does the golden chest signify?
That the most venerable architects of the broad covenant have to mean to one another as brothers; whereupon, according to old ways and customs, they sealed their loyalty in the most powerful way. – Therefore, all our Freemason brothers drink to one another from the so-called brothers' chest, and thereby seal their brotherly bond, which is why we acknowledge the chest as a jewel.
28. What does the bloody stone on the center point of the St. Andrew's Cross signify?
It is an image of the intact foundation stone that was found in the middle of the ruins of the old destroyed temple, and was retained as the foundation stone for the new one; the triangular plate that lies on top of it, and in which the Old Testament is engraved, indicates that this was the foundation through which the true divine service had to be restored. What the Greek Y on the top surface of the stone signifies will be explained in due time.
29. What do the four animals signify, which hold a burning torch in front of them in each corner of the St. Andrew's Cross?
They were distributed on the four corner pillars of the previous temple and are retained according to the old architectural custom of the builders of the new building. They, like the burning torches that they hold, illuminate the four main divisions of the building.
30. Why do the two globes stand before the neighboring pillars of the lodge?
The globes belong to the St. Andrew's Lodge; because they are two sciences, about which the St. Andrew's Mother Lodge has given sufficient instruction from the proper practice of the zealous worker.
