the emblema universale universal emblem, the first principia omnium rerum principles of all things; and whoever knows this theoretically and physically is himself the great secret, as much in the eternal, invisible sense and the bliss flowing from it in the spiritual and metaphysical proportions of our soul, as in possessing it also in this world, both in long health and the temporal renewal and rejuvenation of our body, and the acquisition and attainment of the great secret that grows upon us for our own welfare and the happiness of other men.
The Rosicrucians emulate our Savior in everything, and the life of Christ is their rule and guiding principle.
The Word: I. N. R. I. The Password: Consumatum est It is finished. The Sign: With both arms toward the earth, toward heaven, and then looked toward the earth. The other points with his index finger also toward heaven and then to the earth. Both then lay their hands crosswise upon the breast, which signifies the cross of Christ or the red cross, which the Knights of the Cross wear upon their breast. We are called Rosicrucians now, not to make ourselves known through the word "red," but because Christ shed his blood for us to free us from original sin and to make us happy after this life. The Knights of the Cross are likewise to shed the red cross and their blood for the good of the Order and the brothers. Our black clothing is a sign of mourning for our sins and the suffering of Christ. The Order's ribbon is red, with a compass painted upon it over a quadrant, in the middle of which stands a pelican to give its blood to its young to drink, and with the sacrifice of its life—as it tears open its breast—to preserve its children. The emblem is of gold and hangs on a thread.

The Lodge divides itself into two chambers. In the first, the brothers may speak and make their feelings known to one another. In the other, no one may speak a word, and the Gei Meister Likely "Geistlicher Meister" or Spiritual Master, who is the eldest brother, or the Master of the first degree, gives the signs of prayer, of the opening, and of the closing of the Lodge merely through signs and knocking.
Everything in this degree is mystical, and this gathering represents the illuminating grace of the Holy Spirit or the Feast of Pentecost. All brothers are dressed in white, and everything is white and silver. There may be no more than 12 of them. The Lodge is white with silver flames or tongues. The oath is taken in the first room.
Morally, this degree is the highest sensation of the upper being, of its purity and pure form as the first essence of the divinity, and of the quality springing therefrom within us of a higher, inner, mystical sensation of the analogy which we have with this eternal being or the divinity, which can be thought of but not expressed. Here, man sees himself in his whole dignity, his contentment, and that peace of spirit and body which is meant to be a foretaste of the rewarding bliss after this life in transfiguration or true blessedness.
Physically, it is the transformation of gray into white or the refinement and purification of the great secret. The L. d. M. or C. D. (what do these letters mean?) This is the second rotation or the second transition or the explanation of the cubic stone of the Fellowcrafts.
