"And she took the veil, and covered herself," as it is written in verse 65 at its end: "And she took the veil, and covered herself." When she is married by her own consent before Him, there will be peace in their house, and in their tranquility, blessing and success. They will be filled with the help of God in abundance to couple them in the commandment of procreation in holiness and purity. And the assistance is to write, and so as it is written there in verse 59: "And they sent away Rebekah, and they said to the couple, 'The covenant abbreviation with this man,' and she said, 'I will go.'" Portion of Mishpatim, 59: "And they sent away Rebekah," etc. Verse 60: "And they blessed Rebekah," etc. And likewise, you will find in the marriage of Jacob our father, in the portion of Vayetzei And He Went Out, chapter 29, verse 22: "And Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast." But Laban the deceiver switched Rachel for Leah. And Jacob was angry at him, as it is written there in verse 25: "And it came to pass in the morning, that, behold, it was Leah; and he said to Laban, 'What is this you have done to me?' etc. And why have you deceived me?'" However, he appeased him with his words and gave a reason, as it is written in verse 26: "And Laban said, 'It is not so done in our place, to give the younger before the firstborn.'" However, Leah certainly loved Jacob, and he also loved her afterwards, as it is written in verse 30: "And he went in also unto Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah," etc. What does the text come to let us know [by] "and he loved also Rachel more than Leah"? Was it not already known that for Rachel he served seven years out of his great love for her, and it was in his eyes like a few days, as it is written in verse 20: "And he served for Rachel seven years," etc. And behold, we have learned the uprightness and righteousness of Jacob our father from the text "and he loved also Rachel more than Leah," meaning to say: he was loving Leah and also Rachel, more than Leah. And regarding such a marriage, it is said in Ecclesiastes, chapter 9, verse 9: "Live joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of the life of your vanity," etc. And if this testimony says in Proverbs, chapter 14, verse 1: "Every wise woman builds her house; but the foolish plucks it down with her hands," certainly in a place where there is no love between a man and his wife, even if she is wise, with her hands she will pluck it down, and all the more so if she is foolish, two to her friend. And there is no need to prolong words, testimonies, and proofs more than these to inform us about Torah.
