The sign is carrying the right hand on the Dagger and the other on the forehead. The grip is to present the right Thumb raised, the hand closed; one answers it by seizing it. The word is: N.M. — Nekum.

Catechism of the Elu.


Question. Are you an elect?	Answer. Yes, I am.
" By what shall I know that you are one?	" By the sign, the grip, and the word.
Q: Where were you received?	A. In the Hall of Solomon.
" What motive led you there?	" The desire to avenge the death of Hiram.
" Who was his homicide?	" Abiram.
" What does this word signify?	" Murderer or assassin.
" Give me the Sign.	" One does it by carrying the right hand on the dagger that one wears hanging at the right side from a black ribbon bordered with gold; one raises it to threaten the one to whom one is making it, who must answer it by carrying the hand to the forehead, pretending to parry the blow.
Q. Is it not done in another manner?	A. Pardon me, one does it when one does not have one; one presents the right hand with the fingers closed, except for the Thumb, which one holds raised, and the one to whom one is making it must answer it by seizing your thumb as if he wished to tear it off; this sign serves as a grip.

Question. Whom did you find in this Cave?	Answer. The traitor Abiram, a light, a fountain, and a Dagger.
Q. What did all that serve for?	A: The light illuminated, the fountain quenched the thirst, and the dagger avenged the death of Hiram.
Q. Did he say anything while dying?	A: A single Word.
Q. Say it to me.	A: I can only do so in lodge; tell me the first letter, I will tell you the last.


Q. What did you do after the vengeance?	A. I cut off his head, which I carried to Solomon to prove to him that the vengeance had been fulfilled.
