Coin (Gaster Amulet 55A)

This image shows the front side of a bronze portrait medal of the Byzantine Emperor John VIII Palaiologos, who reigned from 1425 to 1448. The emperor is shown in a profile view facing left, characterized by his thick, curly hair and a short, pointed beard. A beaded border and an inscription in Greek capital letters encircle the central portrait. A scale in centimeters is included at the bottom to show the physical dimensions of the medal.
