Q. My brother, walk as a Master toward the Orient and come to give me the word in my ear.
He approaches the Throne with the 3 steps and says the word.
The Operator gives the word back to the two officers who are at his sides, who pass it from mouth to mouth until the last brother of each Line, and the brothers return to the Perfect Mason order as they have passed the word to their neighbor.
The Operator has the Recipient kneel on the first step of the Throne and makes him take the following obligation.
I swear before the Eternal, source of light and perfection, who with one hand holds the Balance of Equity to weigh all our actions and with the other holds suspended above our heads the Avenger Sword to punish crime, never to reveal the secrets and mysteries of Masonry... to make my efforts to practice its virtues, and to love, assist, and protect my brothers on all occasions according to my power. I promise all these things on my word of honor, and if I have the misfortune to fail in them, I consent to be regarded as a man without probity, to be struck from the number of Masons, and to incur the shame and punishment due to perjurers. To preserve myself from this, may a portion of the Celestial fire that illuminates the abode of the blessed inflame my soul and lead me to perfection through the narrow paths of Truth.
The Operator raises the Recipient and embraces him.
The Orator gives a Speech, the goal of which is to make him consider the royal art from its true point of view, which is to bring men back to the state of happiness that our first fathers enjoyed and to find in allegories, rules for perfecting the heart and the spirit.
Then the Orator puts the green cord upon him to indicate that he has been recognized as a true Mason and admitted to the sublime degree of Perfect.
