Q. Are you Scottish?
A. Yes, I am; I have been purified by water and by fire.
Q. How have you been received?
A. By three times three which makes 27.
Q. Where have you seen the great light?
A. In the third heaven.
Q. What are the Jewels of the Scots?
A. The triangle and the circle.
Q. Whom do you recognize as Scottish?
A. I only recognize those who are in a state to give me an account of these jewels.
Q. What do these Jewels signify?
A. The Triangle signifies the unity of God in three persons, or the three theological virtues. The circle signifies the Eternal who has neither beginning nor end.
Q. By whom was the first lodge held?
A. By the first Just man.
Q. Who was he?
A. Saint John the Baptist.
Q. By what order did he hold it?
A. By that of the Grand Architect of the universe.
Q. In what time?
A. When he gave the knowledge of the greatest Light.

Q. Where did he give it?
A. In the Jordan.
Q. How so?
A. By giving baptism to Jesus Christ.
