All flesh that comes into the world,

And takes its origin from the earth,

Must return again to the earth

And shortly also become ashes.

A salt will arise from the earth,

Which causes the flesh to come forth,

Which then, in the aforementioned way,

Is dissolved with all diligence.

If you now desire, skillfully and beautifully,

To see the restored form,

Then give back to the salt

The sulfur and the mercury.

In this key, the author describes the cycle of life and death as an alchemical process. The Salt the physical body or base matter must be reunited with Sulfur the soul or oily principle and Mercurium the spirit or volatile principle to achieve the resurrection of the matter.
