The explanation of the Spiritus spirit original: "Sp." is on page 117. At the end.
This image is an intricate alchemical emblem known as the VITRIOL diagram, associated with the legendary alchemist Basil Valentine. At the center is a bearded human face representing the alchemist or the Sun, set within a circle. This center is surrounded by a seven-pointed star. Each point of the star is numbered 1 through 7 and contains a planetary symbol and a circular scene depicting different stages of the alchemical Great Work: 1. Moon, 2. Jupiter, 3. Mars, 4. Sun, 5. Venus, 6. Mercury, 7. Saturn. Encircled around the star is a motto: "Visit the interior of the earth; by rectification you will find the hidden stone" original Latin: "Visita Interiora Terrae Rectificando Invenies Occultum Lapidem". The first letters of this Latin phrase spell out the word VITRIOL. The corners contain figures: the word "Soul" original: "ANIMA" with the symbol for Sulphur above a salamander in fire; the word "Spirit" original: "SPIRITVS" with the symbol for Mercury above a flying eagle; and the word "Body" original: "CORPVS" below a cubic stone representing Salt. A king riding a lion and a woman riding a sea creature appear at the bottom.
