An ornamental woodcut initial 'S' at the beginning of the Latin text is decorated with scrollwork and foliage within a square frame. His Sacred Royal Majesty of Sweden original: "Sacra Regia Majestas Sueciæ", having perceived the desire of the Duke of Bavaria and the Catholic League an alliance of Catholic states in the Holy Roman Empire to obtain neutrality, has considered their request. Even though they have deserved nothing but hostility for involving themselves in the Imperial War original: "bello Cæsareo", His Majesty acts upon the intercession of the Most Christian King of France King Louis XIII. This intercession was presented through his most illustrious and excellent ambassadors. To show favor to the French King and to testify to fraternal affection toward him, the King of Sweden will stipulate neutrality under the following conditions.
A firm neutrality shall be established with His Sacred Royal Majesty of Sweden, and his kingdoms, territories, and subjects, both those inherited and those acquired in Germany. It also includes his allies: the Electors princes with the right to elect the Emperor, Princes, Counts, Nobles, Cities, States, Communities, and Estates. This specifically includes the Elector of Saxony. The Duke of Bavaria and his associated Catholic princes and states of Germany shall enter into this agreement. They must observe it sacredly and without violation. Furthermore, they must provide sufficient security legal guarantees or formal assurances to His Royal Majesty regarding this matter.
The Duke of Bavaria and the confederated Catholic princes of Germany shall abstain from all injury and hostility. This applies to His Sacred Royal Majesty of Sweden, his army, and his occupied territories. It also applies to the confederated Evangelical Protestant Electors, Princes, Counts, Nobles, Cities, Communities, Estates, and all other Evangelicals Protestants of any condition. They shall not...
