For if that which is, in short a fact Thatsache, cannot expect or borrow its reality Wirklichkeit from our signs and testimonies because it exists earlier than they do, it is nonetheless true in the temporal realm in which we exist that without their mediation Vermittelung and activity, this reality would not become known outside of itself. One can view these signs and external testimonies as an indication and statement of the fact which they transmit to us, and as a faithful expression of the kind of reality, or the kind of idea, which represents itself in them in order to be recognized. This poorly fathomed law has caused the error of the philosophers: they confused the mediating element with the primal ground Urgrund, and the
manifestation Kundgeborgan with the source of the manifestation.
Since we now feel that there is no reality that does not seek to expand and fulfill its measure Maas, we may do more than merely assume that those immeasurable objects surrounding us have a great and important purpose Bestimmung. That purpose is to make realities known, each in its own way and field; or, if one prefers, to bear witness to that which is, or to any fact that is concerned with making itself known. At the same time, it must be useful for our thinking to recognize this fact or reality, and for our soul to approach it in order to increase our existence Daseyn.
However little one may be familiar with the works already published on this subject, one will recognize that our spiritual being geistiges Seyn and our physical being leibliches Seyn have faculties related to this important purpose.
