Since an act of Privilege appears in the first printing of the first two books of this work in octavo a small book size, 8° by Hero Nauta at Leeuwarden, in the name of BAREND BEEK, Bookseller in the Hague, stating that he was busy printing that Book: the Author hereby declares with his own hand that he does not know Barend Beek, and has never given him anything to print, directly or indirectly; but has granted this printing of all four books in quarto a larger book size, 4° to no one else but DANIEL vanden DALEN. Therefore, he recognizes no copies as his own except those signed by him in this manner.

Those who were the first to dedicate their books, written for the public good, to specific persons, chose for that purpose, as far as I can learn, those who were closest to them; and worthy of the honor of decorating a useful work with their names. And everyone must admit that it is beyond reproach if one proves their gratitude by giving at least as much honor to someone whom one cannot repay as it is to openly profess the benefit and friendship. Thinking well on this, I have no one closer than you both, dear and beloved Brothers: because benevolence and friendship go together here in the greatest measure. For the father of you both, Master BERNHARDUS FULLENIUS, of praiseworthy and blessed memory, was first a fellow student with my own father, thereafter the successor of the famous man Sixtinus Amama, and since then of the widely renowned Metius: he has heard me declare with respect more than once that I recognized His Honor, along with Master Jacob Alting, as my greatest and most faithful Masters, to whom I must be indebted for all my life.
