Joachim of Fiore · 1605

Ornamental drop cap VIn order that studious readers may have the things which Abbot Joachim brought forth regarding the succession of Roman Pontiffs together with other prophecies, we have first placed his predictions here. We believe these will be more dear to everyone because their author is said to have shone with clarity of mind, a prophetic spirit, and holiness of character. Since they have already been explained by Regiselmo Pasqualino Regiselmo, an editor of Joachimite works, and he has skillfully applied all his efforts to this task, I do not think anything remains to be added that would later be worthy of praise.
He will gather the stars so that they may shine in the firmament of heaven.
He will close with the keys, and he will not open.
He will endure hard labors of the body.
The foxy voice will ruin the Principality.
The East will drink from the cup of God's wrath.
You entered fraudulently, you ruled powerfully, you will die groaning.
Strong men will be blinded by envy.

He will become mobile and immobile, and will lay waste to many seas.
Against the dove, this most foul image of the Clergy will fight.
He will give light to six planets, and one of them will finally exceed their brightness.
He will make his robe white in the blood of the Lamb.
The wolf will dwell with the Lamb, and they will take their food together.
He alone will open the book, written by the finger of the living God.
The red flowers will distill fragrant water.
You are terrible: who shall resist you?
Ornamental drop cap ASo that scholars may have in one collection, along with other prophecies, what Abbot Joachim said about the succession of the Roman Pontiffs, his signs have been placed here at the beginning. These ought to be even more valued because he is esteemed for his very sharp intellect, his spirit of prophecy, and the sanctity of his life. And because they are explained by Regiselmo, where one can read the ingenious labors he performed upon them, it does not seem necessary to me to say anything further.
