WHEEL OF THE BLESSED

GIVDOCO PALMERIO,

Who, being near death on the Mount of the Virgin, in the fourth year of the Pontificate of Julius III, on the eighth of February, predicted thus of sixteen Pontiffs.

FIRST.

After the gates of joy are closed, a Stag will come out from a rugged mountain, which because of the malice of men will immediately rot.

II.

As a Lion he will arise underneath, who will sit in the seat of Peter, where striking the wicked with the sword, his Star will be eclipsed in various ways.

III.

The Doves in the height of the scent of the Lilies nourish the pastor, who with a wisdom of a serpent will gladden the Church, and with nets will ruin the iniquitous.

IIII.

With the omen of the heavens, the Lion with a happy course will rest under the mantle of St. Peter.

A good man will come out from the Woods for the salvation of the peoples and of the Church of God, and will be exalted with peace, the piety of justice, and religion.

VI.

In the circuit of your table, under the Cross of the Stag, they will rejoice, and to them the flock of Christ will be recommended, so that in the odor of the sweetness of one and the other element, you may enjoy life-giving things.

VII.

From Lombardy will come the Pastor, who with the strength of the towers will surround his seat, will save the Cross, and will bolt the dangers of the Church.

VIII.

In the widowhood of the Church, from the fount of Jacob with the sieve, water will be drawn for the salvation of all peoples.

IX.

Under the shadow of the mitre, the Sun will shine, and then the mild of heart and the just will be exalted in the midst of the Church.

When the Dragon is exalted above the fortress of the Tiber, marvelous things and many subversions will be seen in the world.

XI.

The Eagle coming out of the tower will plant its crown in the Vatican hill, so that the pigs may grow fat in the pastures of the Church.

XII.

Like the lily of the valleys, which gives off an odor of sweetness, he will be raised up under the flowers.

XIII.

Under the Siren the world will be troubled, and Spain will be harmed by him who has prepared ruin for his own.

XIIII.

From Africa will be born the grain, with which the flock of Christ, fattening itself, will be exalted in the Church of God.

XV.

The sheep of Peter will eat the fruit of your greatness while you are in the midst of the Church.

XVI.

The bear will feed the sheep and the lambs while the little boat of Peter will have fortune original: "haurà fortuna" meaning to experience a storm or "tempestuous luck" in the Tiber.

ANNOTATION.

Observe, O Reader, that you will see in this Wheel of the Blessed Giodoco sixteen Popes numbered, and from the Blessed John and Egidius only fourteen. Nor should this be a matter of wonder, because these fathers have manifested and made it understood to us as they themselves knew it; and God himself has not wished to reveal everything to anyone except to his only-begotten son.
