equity demanded that it be pointed out to him what he had to improve: and not only that; but also time and freedom granted to arrange and explain that which appeared loathsome as it lay, in such a way, if he were able, that it might be judged pleasant, or acceptable, or at least tolerable. To the one and the other he offered himself immediately, and subsequently all the time. Let the Classis itself speak of how much work the four committee members original: "Gecommitteerden" have performed with me in nearly four months: so that you do not think that the case was treated loosely or lightly, the last Act gathers it all together, and reads as follows.
"The Acts of the previous Classis regarding the case of the Reverend original: "D." for Dominus Bekker have been read. And thereupon the brothers commissioned to this case have reported on their business original: "beſoignes" held with the Reverend Bekker, that they have held several conferences with the Reverend Bekker, and indeed with this order. 1. That they have dealt with his Reverence regarding those things that are beyond controversy. 2. Regarding matters that were doubtful, in order to have further interpretation of them. 3. Regarding matters concerning the Author's opinion and its principal ground. 4. Regarding the state of the dispute, drawn up by the most recent answer of the Author, as well as the further grounds of his Book, and the scriptural passages original: "Schriftuurplaatſen". 5. Regarding the principal motives of the Author for the writing of his Book; and the inconsistency of the consequences that his Reverence proposed: laying their papers upon the table of this Assembly.
