Reverend Bekker: they have given a detailed report of everything. Which being heard with the satisfaction of the Assembly, the result of this handling as the Reverend Bekker has drawn it up, containing his Satisfaction original: "Satis-factie"; a formal statement of reconciliation or clarification, was read to the Assembly, reading as follows.
(These are the ARTICLES of Satisfaction, which one sees everywhere in print today.)
"All those motives by which the Reverend Bekker was brought to that declaration were also read to the Assembly by the Reverend Smith: which having been done, it was brought into deliberation what to do further? And it was found good that one shall first handle by way of discourse the six articles in general (these are the ones I had submitted at the previous meeting as satisfaction for the well-known 13 articles: and as those were not fully accepted; the question was, whether these last ones could now give that satisfaction which the Classis had judged to be lacking in those six) before one comes to a final settlement. Which then having been done, the Reverend Bekker stood inside: and was asked by the President original: "D. Præſide" whether he might have anything further for clarification original: "elucidatie", or for further satisfaction of the Assembly. Whereupon his Reverence declared that he had nothing further to hand over: but that he wished and prayed that the Assembly would handle his case in love and the fear of the Lord, with all modesty.
"Finally, they then proceeded to the concluding votes: and it was concluded by a majority of votes that this Satisfaction of the Reverend Bekker shall be allowed to be printed. And to take away the offense of the congregation, that the Reverend Bekker shall be suspended from all parts of his ministry until the next ordinary Classis: so that when that time has expired, his Reverence shall be taken up again, and this case shall be finished therewith.
