It will not be judged strange nor improper for me to offer to your Noble Mightinesses this last of my writings concerning the first two parts of my Book, for which I suffer so greatly. For it is an Answer to the Petition delivered to the Noble Grand Mighty Lords the States by two men, calling themselves Deputies of the Synod, and placed by them into the hands of your Noble Mightinesses to deliberate upon its contents, if it should be useful or necessary. I have always been so confident in the discretion of your Noble Mightinesses that you would do nothing therein without hearing me: just as I was ready for my defense, and longing to see the Petition, which I did not succeed in doing until all the world might see it, finally being published in open print at Enkhuizen by one of those two, along with four others, who had the Proceedings of the last Synod held against me printed.
