Although flesh and blood cannot grasp the divine essence, the spirit can when it is enlightened and ignited by God. If one wishes to speak of God, of what God is, one must diligently consider the forces in nature. This includes the entire creation of heaven and earth, the stars and elements, and the creatures that have come from them. One must also consider the holy angels, devils, and humans, as well as heaven and hell.
2. In such contemplation, one finds two qualities: a good one and an evil one. In this world, these are within one another in all powers, in the stars and elements, and in all creatures, as if they were one thing. No creature in the flesh exists in the natural life unless it has both qualities within itself.
3. Here one must now consider what the word Qualität quality means or is. Quality is the mobility, the welling Böhme uses the word "quallen", relating "quality" to the welling of a spring or driving of a thing. An example is heat, which burns, consumes, and drives everything that enters it which is not of its own property. On the other hand, it enlightens and warms everything that is cold, wet, and dark, and makes the soft become hard. It has, however, two Species types or aspects within itself, namely light and fierceness original: "Grimmigkeit", referring to the harsh, wrathful, or stinging aspect of nature. This should be noted.
4. The light, or the heart of the heat, is in itself a lovely and joy-filled sight. It is a power of life, an illumination, and a way to see things that are far away. It is a piece or source of the heavenly kingdom of joy. It makes everything in this world living and mobile. All flesh, as well as trees, leaves, and grass, grow in this world by the power of the light and have their life within it, as if in that which is good.
