A great number of autograph notes
by Guillaume Postel. Guillaume Postel was a famous 16th-century French polymath and mystic.
A complex Renaissance architectural title border. The frame consists of two decorative pillars featuring caryatid-like female figures, possibly representing Justice and Fortitude, alongside floral garlands and pedestals. At the top, a semi-circular pediment contains a shell niche. The base of the frame is decorated with a grotesque mask and foliate scrolls. In the center of the frame is the printer's device: a tree with three circular shields hanging from its branches containing the letters 'D', 'S', and 'C', with two hares sitting at the base of the trunk.
Here the spoils of the Egyptians have been added to the Sacred Masters. A common Renaissance metaphor for using pagan learning in the service of Christian theology.
