concerning our Savior's first coming—to be despised and rejected by men—and likewise His second coming in power and great glory. In that second coming, He will be the Prince of Peace, taking the nations as His inheritance and the uttermost parts of the earth for His possession, when He comes according to the words of the prophets.
Daniel 7; Zechariah 12—"They shall look upon Me whom they have pierced." Zechariah 14—"And the Lord my God shall come, and all the saints with thee." These scriptures, along with what was pointed out in my last book, show us the faith that we are now earnestly to contend for—the faith delivered to the saints by the holy prophets. They also show what our Savior taught us in His Gospel to look for: that He should come again. Therefore, He warned them to watch for His coming: "For in such an hour as you do not expect, the Son of Man comes. Blessed is that servant whom his Lord, when He comes, shall find so doing."
Luke 12: "Let your loins be girded about, and your lamps burning; and you yourselves like men who wait for their Lord when He will return." Chapter 21: "They shall see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory." In this chapter, we are warned about the purpose of His coming—to bring about the redemption of man—and the signs prior to His coming, such as the distress and perplexity of nations. To ensure that men might know when the end was near, our Savior said the Spirit of Truth would come to guide us into all truth and show us things to come. Now, as our Savior commanded us to be like men waiting for the Lord, and said those whom the Lord finds watching for Him are blessed, this shows us what we must earnestly contend for in the end, now that the Lord has warned by His Spirit that His coming is drawing near.
