A continuation of the controversy

the Apostles themselves did not understand the meaning of their own words or visions; neither is the meaning of Paul's words understood by mankind: "Grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, by which you are sealed until the day of Redemption."

This, as you know, all men have judged to have no other meaning than a spiritual sealing. Neither did the Apostle understand that any temporal sealing a physical act of sealing would be commanded by the Spirit of God to be performed before the day of redemption took place. The Apostle did not see or understand the meaning of his words any more than you understood the sense and meaning of the Sealing when I warned you of it in the beginning. At that time, you understood it only as my promises being sealed up—what I would do in the end for those who believed.

But you had no knowledge of the Sealing going out for man's redemption or Satan's destruction—for men to be redeemed from his power—before I made it clear to you how I would proceed in the same way Satan began. He said he would gain the kingdom, or lose it, after the manner of men, by election a vote or choice. And so, in the manner of men, I ordered the Sealing to go out to try and prove the hearts of men, and to defeat the enemy in his own wisdom.

But now I shall come to the SPIRITUAL SEALING. This means the heart being given up to God to be saved with an everlasting salvation, and having a witness within—as Abraham had—that they are heirs of the promise. This is faith leading to salvation, to be saved at the hour of death; and this spiritual sealing is for those who are saved in the end, who rely upon ME for salvation. But however men may judge that this is the only meaning of the Apostle's words—that they go no further than a spiritual sense—I now tell you, they apply to both the temporal and the spiritual.
