remember with greater clarity what they have seen and heard on other planes during sleep.
Now that the ground is prepared in a certain respect, we can begin to subject the various possibilities of clairvoyance to an analysis.
They are indeed so different from one another, both in their nature and in their degrees, that it is not easy to decide how they are best to be classified. One could, for example, classify them according to the type of clairvoyance that is used, whether it is mental mental, astral astral, or only ätherisch etheric. Furthermore, one could classify them according to the ability of the clairvoyant. This would take into account whether he is trained or untrained. It would consider whether his vision is regular and under his control, or occurs in isolation and independent of his will. It would ask whether he can only exercise his higher sight when under magnetic influence, or whether this assistance is unnecessary for him. Further, it would ask whether he is able to use his ability when he is in the waking state, or whether he can only exercise it when he temporarily leaves his body in a state of sleep or trance.
All these differences are important, and they must all be taken into account in the further explanations. But perhaps in general the best classification will be the one that follows in certain respects the system of Alfred Percy Sinnett, which he adopted in his book "Rationale of Mesmerism". This is a work, by the way, that all who are interested in clairvoyance should read. We will therefore classify the phenomena more according to the ability of clairvoyance being applied than according to the planes on which it is exercised. The examples of clairvoyance are to be grouped under the following headings:
1. Einfaches Hellsehen Simple clairvoyance: that is, a simple opening of the sight that enables its owner to see those astral or etheric entities that are in his surroundings. This does not include the power to observe either distant places or scenes that belong to a time other than the present.
2. Hellsehen im Raume Clairvoyance in space: the ability to see scenes or events that are spatially distant from the seer,

and are either too far for ordinary observation or are hidden by intervening objects.
3. Hellsehen in der Zeit Clairvoyance in time: that is, the ability to see objects or events that are distant in time from the seer. In other words, this is the power to perceive the events of the past or future.
