The answer of the Lord to the powers of darkness

That Satan must now fall like the Roman.
For as he says, "He never will repent,"
He will find my anger, and that my mind is set.
With every threat he came to you,
I will now come against him with equal threats.
But what I have answered concerns him and man;
Now I shall come to the purpose.
And you will read all his words to me,
And now I tell you, I shall answer you.
For the first words, as you have read them here,
Are like the serpent when he appeared
In the beginning to work against man;
And there the Marriage of the Lamb began.
You answered wisely that man was counted "dead,"
And the serpent was exactly as you said.
But here is a folly you did not discern;
I did not convince you of it at that time,
To see if man could ever find it out.
But you are entangled, and you now doubt
Your own judgment, thinking it is not clear,
Because you describe three marriages there
Before you mention the Marriage of the Lamb;
So it is the fourth marriage that you join.
For you did not discern the first marriage:
It was a union to join with your GOD.
The second union was between the two,
When man and woman were within my view,
So that they should then be complete in marriage,
In HAPPY UNION and in GREAT BLESSINGS.
So the union stood like this at first:
The union with God and man burst forth.
And then the second union surely appeared;
I gave the woman to complete it there.
And then the marriage appeared as only one,
For I came to them both as a Father.
But then the serpent soon struck them dead; The Reader is requested to read with particular attention and compare with page 75 of the Dispute with the Powers of Darkness, where the devil said, "abide now by marriage." For he deceived Joanna and called the fatal divorce* he produced between man, woman, and their Maker a "marriage"! But Divine Love, at the same time, provided the remedy through the Marriage of the Lamb.

As he interceded with the woman
To bring death, as you say, upon the man.
And there the Marriage of the Lamb came in,
Because I said that I would die in his place
And make the serpent tremble at his doom.

As the woman cast the blame upon his head,
I immediately told her I would become her HUSBAND;
And I said I would rule over her in power,
And so preserve the TREE of LIFE for all.
So that in the end, you all might live in ME,
When I fulfill the promise given to HER.
So, as you say, the third marriage shall stand:
The first was a union with GOD and man,
In which I said he should stand in MY LIKENESS.
And so I joined MY LIKENESS into two;
The man and woman were joined so.
The man was one, and soon became as two.
Then know that I surely appeared as man
When I died to clear the guilt of man!
Because the woman's ignorance was betrayed,
And the serpent led her perfectly in this way:
So that he surely became like a husband,
"And said he would hold your hand in marriage." * See the bottom of the preceding page.

And you, for lack of judgment, did not see
That Satan was never once named to be a husband.
Then how could the fool claim the marriage?
And I will bind him to his own words about marriage.
I said they all went prostituting themselves away from ME
When they were wandering freely after Satan;
And I called their children nothing but bastards,
Because strange gods had drawn away the hearts of all.
They appeared surely as bondmen,
But know that a bastard was never an heir.
Though Satan's arts had ensnared thousands so,
That they all went prostituting themselves away from their God,
Now the fool shall tremble at my rod.
Because he cannot assume the role of a husband,
And now the fool shall tremble at his doom.
For now I will bind every soul to marriage,
And, Satan, where is your altar to be found?
Produce your license; who will announce your marriage bans?
Produce your ring to encircle everyone;
And now let your marriage deeds appear.
I ask you, how can you prove you are a husband
To the sons of men?
Or where is the woman on whom you have placed the ring?
Or where is the priest who joined the marriage?
The roving heart is an adulterous mind,
Which I pronounced was unfaithfulness to their God;
And so the harlots are shown publicly
To have become prostitutes to men.
But where is the marriage that joins the harlots?
