History of Hindu Chemistry. By PRAPHULLA CHANDRA RAY, D.Sc., Ph.D. Vol. II. Calcutta: The Bengal Chemical and Pharmaceutical Works, Ltd. London: Williams and Norgate. 1909.
POSSIBLY in order to appreciate fully this history of Hindu Chemistry, the reader would have to possess a knowledge of Sanskrit, but even the uninitiated will readily see that the work possesses unusual interest. It contains many notes on Sanskrit texts, which show that the knowledge of science possessed by the ancient Hindus was diversified and comparatively far-reaching, and many of the original texts are reproduced. The period treated extends from about 150 A.D. to 1600. Principal Seal, of the Victoria College, Cooch Behar Corrected spelling of Kuch Behar., has contributed to the book articles on the mechanical, physical, and chemical theories of the ancient Hindus, and on their scientific methods.
