Soak or treat orpiment tālaka seven times in the juices of night-blooming plants Referring to plants gathered or active at night, likely to enhance alchemical potency. With this, coat a sheet of silver tāra-patra made from lead vaṅga. (258)
When the silver is impregnated with this lead, apply it to copper. At that moment, all the mercury becomes fixed Binding or fixing mercury, a central goal in Indian alchemy to stabilize the volatile metal. (259)
Through sixty-four processes, one should cause the transmutation of copper. That copper then becomes silver, serving as a means to achieve religious merit, desire, and wealth. (260)
I shall reveal an extraordinary highly amazing thing that causes wonder in the world. This is the great elixir known as Jyotiṣmatī. (261)
Collect its seeds and dry them in the sun. Then, grind the seeds into a powder and extract the oil from them. (266)
Add to the oil half its weight in clarified butter ghee, one-quarter part honey, an equal amount of milk to the oil, and double the amount of cow's urine. (267)
Cook this over a medium fire until only the oil remains. Add nutmeg, camphor, cardamom, and cubeb. (268)
Take one karṣa A traditional weight unit, approximately 10-12 grams of each of these, grind them into a powder, and cast them into the oil, O Goddess of the Gods, making it into a single mixture. (269)
Place it in a greased vessel and store it within a pile of grain for thirty, sixty, eighty, or ninety days. (270)
One may also keep it for a hundred days or more, but do not keep it for less than thirty. After twenty-one days have passed, in a place free from drafts, (271)
At an auspicious moment, with a purified body, one should drink this jewel Referring to the potent alchemical preparation at sunrise. (272)
Once the day has passed, after waking, one should consume a meal of milk and sixty-day rice. (273)
If thirsty, drink milk and also eat milk-rice pudding. The person will possess a radiance like the sun and become like Sadāśiva An aspect of Lord Shiva, signifying divine state. (274)
They will hear sounds from far away, digest poisons daily, kill eighteen types of leprosy, and destroy all diseases. (275)
Hear now the result of the fourth month of use. (280)
One should coat copper sheets with the urine and excrement of one using this preparation. (281)
Through the digestion of the pulse Likely referring to the assimilation of the preparation within the body and the removal of impurities, the copper becomes gold. Hear now, Goddess, the true result of five months of use: (282)
One attains the status of Brahma and the body becomes brand new. With six months of use, the perfection of dissolution Or 'the state of non-attachment/liberation' is achieved, and not otherwise. (283)
One will live as long as Brahma, there is no doubt in this. O Goddess, whoever serves this for seven months with great humility, (285)
Having conquered the senses and anger, will live as long as Lord Maheshwara. (286)
For your satisfaction, O Great God, the path to liberation has been shown. This is a supreme, secret elixir that must be guarded with effort. (288)
A man overcome by laziness will never perform these actions. (289)
Of all medicines, this is the most excellent elixir. (296)
