The following Latin text describes a mnemonic technique using vivid, localized imagery: "by Jacob, who is very well known to me: and from that notable act, I will remember these two; and thus I will make a memory of the two names—In the second, I will place Martin, who is very well known to me (for those images must be very well known, so that they quickly recur to memory), who will place his finger in a box and extract ointment, with which he will anoint with his finger the anus of Henry, who is very well known to me. In the third, I will place Andrew, likewise known to me, who with his hand will extract a plaster from a mortar and place it upon the face of Francis, or by constructing other ridiculous acts, from which the memory of such names is confirmed. And thus let it be proceeded similarly in others."
