The Vijnana Bhairava Tantra

Just as by the light of a lamp,

And by the rays of the sun,

The divisions of space and the like are known,

So is Shiva known by Shakti, O Beloved. 21

Just as the divisions of space and their orientation are known only by the light of a lamp or by the rays of the sun, and not by anything else like another lamp, similarly, Shiva, one's own self, is known, recognized, and entered into only through one's own Shakti, which is in the form of pulsating consciousness. 21

Having thus determined the nature of the Supreme, the Goddess, desiring to know the means of attaining it, said:

O God of gods, adorned with the trident,

Wearing the skull as an ornament,

Beyond direction, space, and time,

Devoid of all descriptions. 22

What is that state, full in form,

That is realized as Bhairava?

By what means does His face [gate] become manifest,

And how does the Supreme Goddess come to be? 23

As I may correctly know,

So tell me, O Bhairava.
