Having bowed low with humility, he began to inquire.
Thus, the descendant of Bhrigu Parashurama, having bowed to the son of Atri Dattatreya, the sage, spoke: 1
"O Blessed One, O Guru, O Noble One, O All-Knowing, O Ocean of Compassion,
Formerly, in my lineage of kings, anger arose due to certain causes. 2
Because of that, I repeatedly struck down the kshatra warrior caste, including those in the womb and infants.
Twenty-one times, I filled the lakes with the blood of the warriors. 3
The ancestors were satisfied, honored by my devotion,
And they pacified my anger. I became calm at the command of my father. 4
Now, in Ayodhya, resides the one who is Shri Rama, Hari himself.
Being blinded by anger, I, a descendant of Bhrigu, approached him, pride-swollen by my strength. 5
Because of that arrogance, I was brought down and defeated by the Blessed One Rama.
I somehow escaped alive, by the mercy of that compassionate one who is devoted to the Brahman Supreme Reality. 6
Then, a sense of dispassion nirveda overwhelmed me.
Since then, I have lamented in many ways along the path." 7
He asked with humility, which is prashraya politeness/reverence. Verse 2 explains the cause of his own arrival at dispassion. Verse 3 refers to that cause, which was anger. 4, 5, 6.
