The meaning is that worship can be performed with or without rules, according to the diverse methods you have spoken of. 22. It can be performed differently based on the differences in the focus of worship, such as the Shaligram sacred stone representing Vishnu or the Narmada stones. Because it is understood in many ways, this worship is determined to be comparable to sacrifices and other actions, in that its fruit is untrue. 23. Because it is mental, it is untrue by nature; therefore, how could it produce a true fruit? The idea is based on the statement, "Nothing created is achieved by the uncreated." If one objects that it is not appropriate to speak as one pleases because the scripture is the manifestation of the Divine Will and is thus inconceivable, he says, "Even so." 24.
