There are three main divisions of tantrashastra: Agama, Yamala, and Tantra.
According to the view of the Varahi Tantra—
"Creation and dissolution, the worship of deities,
The practice of all, and the purashcharana preparatory ritual itself,
The practice of the six acts original: "shatkarmas" (magical or ritual actions), and four types of meditation-yoga;
The wise know that which possesses these seven characteristics as Agama."
Creation, dissolution, the worship of deities, the practice of all, purashcharana, the practice of the six acts, and four types of meditation-yoga—that which contains these seven types of characteristics is called Agama.
"Evolution and dissolution, and the determination of mantras,
The establishment of deities, and the description of pilgrimage sites,
Likewise, the dharma of the stages of life, and the establishment of the twice-born,
The establishment of beings, and the decision regarding yantras mystical diagrams,
The origin of the learned, and the definition of the kalpas aeons,
The establishment of astrology, and the narration of the Puranas,
The statement of the treasury, and the definition of vows,
The account of purity and impurity, and the description of the hells,
The account of the Harachakra Shiva's energy center, and the characteristics of women and men,
The dharma of kings, the dharma of charity, and the dharma of the ages,
Conduct is told, and also the description of the spiritual;
That which is endowed with such characteristics is called a Tantra."
