Habitat. On oak beams.
Agaricus labyrinthiformis. Bull. Hist. Champ. History of Mushrooms pl. 442, fig. 1.
Properties. They are unknown.
DÆDALEA QUERCINA. Persoon. — Var. porosa. — Pl. II, fig. 2, 3, 4.
Labyrinthine cap. — Agaricus quercinus. Paulet.
In this variety, the underside is no longer furnished with simple or anastomosed gills or tooth-like structures; it is porous like that of the Polypores. The partitions forming the tubes are thick, of the same nature as the cap, and covered with dust like the gills or teeth of the fruiting membrane (Hymenium); the opening of the pores is more or less angular and obtuse at the margin.
Habitat. On old beams.
Agaricus labyrinthiformis. Bull. Hist. Champ. History of Mushrooms pl. 442, fig. F.
Properties. None are known for it.
LENZITES SEPIARIA. Fries. — Pl. II, fig. 5.
Agaric of Saint-Cloud. — Agaricus resupinus. Paulet.
Cap corky, reflexed or resupinate, sometimes attached by the center, developed in width or orbicular; its surface is zoned, velvety, and brown. The gills are thick, of unequal length, anastomosed, simple or bifid, corky like the cap, and of a dirty yellow color; they become black in extreme old age.
Habitat. On pine planks.
Agaricus de Saint-Cloud. Vaill. Bot. Par. Botanicon Parisiense p. 3, tab. 1, fig. 1-4.
Agaricus sepiarius. Pers. Syn. fung. Synopsis of Fungi p. 487.
Agaricus abietinus. Bull. Hist. Champ. History of Mushrooms tab. 442, fig. 2, and 451, fig. 1.
Properties. Of no use.
Obs. — Paulet's mushroom is represented in the resupinate position. The synonymy he provides leaves not the slightest doubt as to its identity with the one described by the author of the Botanicon Parisiense.
POLYPORUS IMBERBIS. Bulliard.? — Pl. III, fig. 1.
Corky lobier. — Xylometron lobatum. Paulet.
Cap sessile, lobed, corky, thick, of a dirty gray. Pores large, unequal, in the shape of lyrelles lyre-shaped structures, yellowish or the color of the cap.
Habitat. On old trees.
Polyporus imberbis. Fr.? Epic. Syst. myc. Epicrisis Systematis Mycologici p. 451.
Properties. None are known for this mushroom.
Obs. — This species is very doubtful because Paulet did not say a single word about the shape or color of the underside of the cap.
SISTOTREMA VIOLACEUM. Persoon. — Pl. III, fig. 2.
Thorny Agaric. — Xylometron spinosum. Paulet.
Caps more or less numerous, resupinate or reflexed, and then imbricated, sessile, semi-orbicular or lobed, leathery, flexible, almost membranous, tomentose, and of a dirty gray. Underside formed of small, narrow, flattened, elongated gills, of a violet color, and sometimes joined at their base to form unequal, angular, almost superficial tubes.
A small decorative printer's ornament is present at the bottom left.
