PREFACE.
to which a significant number of new species is added, partly discovered by myself in these and neighboring regions, or communicated to me by other very keen and skillful investigators of cryptogamic plants that reproduce by spores, such as fungi plants, whose names, however few, I have gratefully placed in their respective locations.
It is altogether to be lamented that most species, which on account of their beautiful color and singular form would certainly deserve this, cannot be preserved in herbariums without undergoing changes in form and color, due as much to their substance as to their small size. Therefore, for those who derive their knowledge solely from this aid, little utility will perhaps result from this science. Beyond the benefit of the excursion into the nurturing and open nature that will profit the body as much as the soul, on the contrary, plant researchers will enjoy the delight that it offers the observer
