A bookplate for the Library of the New York Botanical Garden. The central emblem features a shield with a globe and an open book, flanked by two figures, a scholar and a laborer or gardener. Below the shield is a ribbon with the Latin motto "PRO SCIENTIA SALUTE POPULIQUE" For science and the health of the people. The emblem is surrounded by a decorative border featuring botanical illustrations of plants. Below the emblem, the text "LIBRARY OF THE NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN" is printed on a banner, followed by "Special Book Fund 1905". At the very bottom, small text reads "Scudder 1897" and "R.W. Smith in."
