It grows around Vienna, Austria, on still-living oaks, in summer.

According to the illustration, it is a span wide and 3 inches high; at first pale, but eventually nearly blackening, and it is covered with a pitch-like gluten, especially at the margin; internally it is white with a fibrous-villous texture. Sowerb.
18. polyzona, large, imbricated, depressed, with a thin, opaque, tomentose, pale-grayish pileus, banded with many zones; with equal, very short, rather thin, wood-pale sinuses.
