Because of a lingering illness, to which I succumbed several times during the editing of this work, its publication was delayed for two years, during which I was also forced, very unwillingly, to break off all literary correspondence with dearest friends. If God, the Best and Greatest, kindly grants that my shattered health be restored, I will return to these soon, happy and grateful. In the meantime, I earnestly ask you, individually, and you, excellent Fr. Hildenbrand, never to doubt my most grateful spirit.
