The Goddess Durga, the Great Illusion original: "Mahamaya", is the seed of creation; she is the primal cause of the world. The Vedic seers had experienced this fact. In the Rigveda, there is a hymn that reveals the mystery of creation—the "Nasadiya Sukta." The seer who envisioned the verses of this hymn said:
"In the beginning of creation, there was neither non-existence nor existence.
Then there was no death and no immortality,
Neither night nor day.
But something profound and difficult to know certainly was. What was it? A veil, mist, or darkness? Nothing can be said.
Yes, there was something vital, yet without air. It existed alone, established in its own glory. In reality, there was nothing else beyond it.
But what was that? In truth, first there was 'Tamas' darkness/inertia. This whole thing was just Tamas, an unknowable Tamas without name and form. That Tamas was enveloped by Tamas itself."
A decorative horizontal divider separates the text.
1. "At that time, there was neither non-existence nor existence; there was no space or sky beyond it. What covered it? Where, and under whose protection? Was there water, profound and deep? There was no death then, nor immortality; there was no sign of night or day. That One breathed without air, by its own power; beyond that, there was nothing else. Darkness existed, hidden by darkness; all this was an unknowable, fluid state." (Rigveda 10/129/1-3)
