Let Gesner Johann Matthias Gesner (1691–1761), a previous editor of the Orphica. have thyrsus-speared original Greek: θυρσεγχὴς; I would rather correct it thus: thyrsus-speared, heavy-wrathful, honored by all the gods. (Hymn 51, line 11). Paian of the golden spear. original Greek: Παιὰν χρυσεγχής. Ruhnken David Ruhnken (1723–1798), a Dutch scholar of Greek. marks this as RVHNK?. "Golden-speared" hardly fits the context. Ruhnken would have more aptly used the term thyrsus-lance original Greek: θυρσόλογχον, which Casaubon Isaac Casaubon (1559–1614), a renowned Renaissance philologist. illustrated in his notes on Strabo, page 37. Athenaeus (Book V, page 200 D) says of Bacchus:
