A woodcut depicts the front cover of a historical leather-bound book. The binding is made of red Moroccan leather, showing wear at the corners and along the spine. The cover is decorated with elaborate gold-tooled (gilt) ornamentation. A double-line rectangular border frame contains small floral stamps at the corners and circular rosettes at the midpoints of each side. Within this border is a large, central, gold-tooled cartouche or lozenge with lobed and pointed edges. At the center of the cover is a circular medallion defined by a double gold ring and an outer ring of small gold dots (dentelle tooling). Inside this circle is the title of the work in Greek characters, followed by three small decorative fleurons or clover-like symbols.
