A Canon Table displays three decorative arches resting on four thin columns. The columns are decorated with alternating bands of red, black, and gold. Stylized red and gold designs form the column capitals and bases. To the left, a faded and damaged illustration depicts a bird in profile, possibly a peacock. In early Christian art, the peacock often represented immortality. Inside the arches, the numbers for the Gospel sections are written in red and black ink.
The heading refers to Canon III of the Eusebian system. This system was created by Eusebius of Caesarea to help readers find parallel stories across the four Gospels. Canon III specifically lists passages shared by Matthew, Luke, and John, but not Mark.
