butterflies first emerge, their wings are quite
small, as can be seen on Fol. 26, yet they grow
so quickly that they are full-grown within an hour;
the butterflies no longer have a mouth as they did when
they were caterpillars, but two long thin snouts
between their eyes, which they insert into the flowers, joined
together, and thus suck their food towards
them, remaining in this form until they have
laid their eggs and then die.
