| Variegated Rose. | Rosa versicolor Multi-colored rose. |
This chestnut-brown caterpillar sitting on the rose crawls on its belly because it only has three legs likely referring to the three pairs of true legs. I fed them with these roses until the end of June, when it wound itself into a rose leaf and turned into a brown pupa, as can be seen on the rose. After fourteen days, a black and white-spotted little butterfly emerged, also depicted sitting on the rose.
On the stem sits a small green caterpillar; I also fed that with rose leaves. At the beginning of July, it turned into a pupa; after fourteen days, an ochre-yellow little butterfly emerged, as shown below.
A similar caterpillar lay down as if dead, out of which a white maggot crawled, which after a short time turned into a barrel pupa case. After fourteen days, a fly emerged from it, as depicted on the middle leaf.
| White Currants. | Grossularia hortensis Garden gooseberry. |
A beautiful white and black-spotted caterpillar feeds on these small trees. When this caterpillar wants to move forward, it places its rear body next to the front, makes a high arch with its body, and goes its way like that. I fed them with these greens until the 13th of July, when it turned into a light-brown pupa. At the end of this month, a beautiful white, yellow, and black-spotted little butterfly emerged, which was very quick in flying.
