Considering those who alone have the true faith, of whom it is written: Here are they who keep the commands of God and the faith of Jesus. If Apo. 14. 13. it is then so that you do not have such faith, that which makes you righteous, that is, pure, humble, gentle, generous, and adorned with such virtues, then note how far you still are from that, so that you would perform the miracles which Christus Christ has foretold to be signs of faith. I do not demand here the physical True miracles of faith. miracles which were given as beginnings of the faith of the first churches, but this I demand: that he who believes in Christum Christ, also in other parts, [manifests] the same virtues which Christus Christ has produced and brought forth in him, that is, that he changes from a drunkard into a sober man, from unchaste into chaste, from sorrowful into long-suffering, and finally from unrighteous into righteous, for that is a casting out of the devils: of unchastity, greed, anger, and so on. Likewise that he speaks with new tongues, that is, with fiery and burning tongues, to which no one may withstand, just like those who speak there, not what they have read, but what they have seen with eyes, touched with hands, and heard with ears, that is, what they have completely impressed into their souls and believe as certainly as you certainly believe that it is now day, or that it will soon be night. With these tongues they may truly comfort the sorrowful, address him who must stand, [and help] the despairing...
