In the year 1604, on Monday the 2nd of April, around 12 o'clock, we sighted the Lizard headland a prominent cape in Cornwall, England. On the 23rd of the same month, we were at 22 miles west-southwest by west, at a latitude of 15 degrees 5 minutes; on that day, we came within 6 miles of St. Jago modern-day Santiago, Cape Verde, on the western side of St. Jago, and at 5 o'clock we proceeded with a northerly wind toward the eastern side of Majo modern-day Maio, Cape Verde.
Majo.
On the 24th of the same month, we arrived at Majo on the south side of the island and cast anchor in 15 fathoms of water, having one point northwest by north and the other east-southeast.

On the 25th of the same month, we went ashore, where we lost one of our merchants, as he had been taken by the inhabitants of that island.
Whom they had to leave behind.
On the 26th, in the morning, we sent 100 men ashore to see if we could recover our merchant, but we saw no way to reach the inland areas, so we had to leave him behind, and at 9 o'clock in the evening, we set sail with a northerly wind.
